WhatsApp extended the deadline to accept its updated privacy policy until May 15. WhatsApp had faced severe backlash over user concerns that data was being shared with parent company Facebook.
Facing criticism over its upcoming privacy policy, WhatsApp has said that its users will not immediately lose their accounts or face curtailed functionalities on the platform on May 15. But they will have to eventually go through limited functions if they fail to accept the new norms. Also, it will continue to send reminders about the new privacy policy.
What happens if I don’t accept privacy terms by May 15?
According to a report, a WhatsApp spokesperson told Android Central those who haven’t accepted the new policy will have “limited account functionality”. This basically means that users will be unable to access their chat but they can answer voice and video calls. WhatsApp will further let users call back a missed voice or video call and notifications will continue to come and users will have to read the messages, and respond to them as well.
But this will continue only for a few weeks as they will eventually stop users from receiving incoming calls or notifications essentially cutting off services. Then users will be either given an option to accept the new policy or end up losing their account.
WhatsApp has clarified that the updated privacy policy does not affect normal account users. The changes are only for chats with business accounts.

WhatsApp announced the new privacy policy in January this year. Unlike what is expected, the newly updated privacy policy faced massive backlash from users in the country. This was primarily because, in the policy, WhatsApp revealed user details it shares with parent company Facebook for the first time, and there are a lot of them. Eventually, users ditched WhatsApp and moved to platforms such as Signal and Telegram.

WhatsApp has already delayed the original deadline from February 8 to May 15 after user backlash. There’s no deadline to accept the privacy policy. At least, the messaging platform hasn’t announced any of it yet. In fact, They haven’t also announced any specific date to switch to low functionality mode.
